How to Survive a COVID Christmas

Holidays are a source of celebration for many, but this year due to the pandemic, we may struggle due to having to social distance and be separated from family members .

So how do you celebrate a Covid Christmas? Instead of focusing on who you can’t see for the holidays, think about who is already there with you. Celebrate the people that you see every day in your life. People often focus on who they miss or haven’t seen, yet the people that we take for granted need to feel valued and appreciated. If they were not in our lives, we would miss them too.

During this Covid Christmas, instead of focusing on loss, which you may have in the areas of jobs or career, loss of income, or lack of social interactions with friends and family connections, focus on what and who you currently have in your life. If you are in a relationship, celebrate that special person. Celebrate your kids, your friends, your cat, dog or other pet. Even if you find yourself alone, celebrate those who make a difference in your life and make plans to make new friends in the new year.

This Christmas will most likely be different for many of us, but it doesn’t have to be bad. Do something new this year to celebrate your life or even to celebrate the end of a difficult year, and remember that we are all truly going through this together, but in different ways.

This year start a new holiday tradition. It can be something simple such as making handmade Christmas ornaments, sharing stories with family members in person or via zoom, or taking a holiday hike through the forest or city streets. It doesn’t matter what you do, but make it something special that you enjoy.

Life has been a challenge, but through the adversities and loss, there are also blessings and gains. Take the time to acknowledge them and to celebrate them.

Happy Christmas everyone!

Restless Soul Syndrome

As we are all being forced to change our everyday routines, and daily life habits, and our world becomes smaller, you may start to question the direction or purpose of your life.

Sometimes  we make the decision to change, and other times we are forced to make changes, which can be very painful and difficult.

Now is the time to make those overdue changes and create the life that you want.  In Restless Soul Syndrome, people ask common everyday questions as to what the purpose of their life is.  The answer isn’t as difficult as you think it may be.

The Sun Will Shine Again

At first the pandemic didn’t seem real.  I didn’t think that life was going to change to the level that it has.  A week or so later, I see anxiety on people’s faces and hear fear in their voices.  They are not alone as I find myself scared for myself, my family, my community, the country and the planet.

Never has there been a time when the entire entire world has experienced such global impact.  We cannot drive away from it, nor can we fly to another country to escape.  We are limited to being together at the time when we need being together the most.  We struggle to find food and supplies.

For me, as my world becomes smaller and smaller, I have been forced to go within, something I am often to busy to do, or simply avoid.  Now I find going within an essential part of my daily routine as my previous life no longer exists.  I no longer go out for coffee or lunch and running errands has come to a bare minim as I am restricted to my home.  Although keeping busy has always been a good distraction, now I am forced to find peace and solace in prayer and meditation.

I also know that like everything in life, this too will pass and the sun will continue to shine.  In the meantime, we need to dance through the storm, whether it is with others or alone.

You, me, us, we will all get through together.  The storm clouds will pass and the sun will shine again, just dance through the storm, dance through the storm, dance through the storm….

Everyday I Love You

Telling people we love them isn’t always easy when we get angry or upset with them.  Sometimes in life we are not given a second chance to forgive but have to live with unspoken words.

Tell someone today that you love them.  Today is all we have.

I love you!

Live a Happy Life!

What does it mean to be happy?  Happiness comes in different ways.  We all seek happiness, but finding happiness in the small or everyday experiences is what its all about.

This time of the year can be difficult for many, as we focus on what we have lost or who is no longer with us, but change your focus on things that bring you happiness in ways that you take for granted, such as a beloved pet, the sunshine, food on your table, someone’s smile, silence, and being just being ok in the moment.

Wishing everyone a happy day and a happy life!

Forest Magic

Walking in the Stevens Point Sculpture Park yesterday, I unexpectedly discovered this colorful creation that filled the dark winter sky with color.  The forest is known to hold magical energy and is a place of healing, but finding this colorful art exhibit, created by the children of the Stevens Point School District, created magic of a different kind.

Inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places.
