On a recent trip to my local outdoor garden market, I found that most of the veggies and herbs were already gone. There were a few pots of chili peppers left. I had planted some peppers from seeds and was going to pass on purchasing anything, then came across a pepper that I did not recognize, Chocolate Barrackpore Chili, so I decided to add it to our tiny garden.
I got the pepper home and then did some research. I found this online.
“Chocolate Barrackpore is a rare 7 pod pepper from Trinidad. If you love the insanely hot peppers, this is one for you. Of all the 7 pod peppers the Chocolate Barrackpore is insane and we have seen people curled up in a fetal position after eating this screamingly hot pepper.”
In the world of peppers, the chocolate barrackpore chili ranks high:
- Scoville heat units (SHU): 1,000,000 – 1,300,000 SHU
- Median heat: 1,150,000 SHU
- Origin: Trinidad
- Jalapeño reference scale: 125 to 520 times hotter
- Flavor: Sweet, Fruity, Bright, Bitter
Not sure that I will be brave enough to try this one but Tim loves the heat and and will most likely come up with a fabulous new recipe that I can share in the future.
I would love to hear from others who have tried this pepper!
